Andy Rachleff on “How to Know If You’ve Got Product Market Fit”
Good interview regarding finding product market fit with Wealthfront founder. How successful startups likes to revise their histories. Pivoting means to keep your original insight and pivot market, not changing everything. To succeed as a startup, you have to have an unconventional insight and right. If you are consensus and right, there will be too much competition. “The startup law of the jungle”
Outdoor Voices: Tyler Haney
How I Built This with Guy Raz
I'm a HUGE fan of Outdoor Voices, the brand, but unfortunately, NOT the actual product line. I had high hopes when I tried on their clothing in NYC - but the reality is: material matters when it comes to exercise, and the stretchy material made famous by lululemon just feels better on your body. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode with the young CEO of the growing athleisure brand. It takes guts to take on nikes, reeboks, lululemons -- yet Tyler Haney did just that because she knew that focusing on a NICHE would still work in a saturated market. So let that be a lesson to all of us: niche & positioning. I laughed hard out loud when she referred to Nike as "Bright Chinese Spandex!" Interesting fact that nobody makes athletic clothing on the East Coast. BRILLIANT idea for getting attention of VCs (@mm) by sending her product to the VC's wives, using Google, leveraging her 'student card' for intros & persistence. Added to my "best podcasts about fitness industry trends" list.
Sarah Leary of Nextdoor: “The Moment You Know You've Created Something Valuable"
Loved this episode about the founder of Nextdoor and her journey from two failed social media network startup to now a $2B social media network in 250k neighbourhoods around the world. Ingenious insight into using ground tactics from the Obama campaign to fuel the growth of their neighbourhood activations. Another woman that shoots and aims for the best. Her key message: Dream big and do big.
