M.M.LaFleur: Sarah LaFleur
How I Built This with Guy Raz
Wow, what a real and authentic story from a founder who I was unfamiliar with. Sarah LaFleur built a successful fashion brand with ZERO background in fashion and after suffering from a 'down' period after leaving corporate VC life. This is probably the most transparent and honest story from HIBT. There are no 'magical moments' - Sarah did a bunch of different things before working hard to launch her company. The first thing I admired about Sarah's interview is how authentic and honest she got about feeling lost and depressed. Also, she started off doing a multiple of different things. She wasn't born with this passion. You never hear truths like that. Very impressed at how she worked with a recruiter to find one of the top fashion designers in NYC. Again, you always hear these 'magical' stories of how co-founders meet, or how founders meet their first hires, but she was real: she hired a friggin' recruiter to help her find the best of the best. Real talk. Also impressed at how she worked as a tutor to make ends up - and how they sent 'trunks' to customers quickly grow their business right when they needed it the most. @mm good tips in here about fundraising! One of my new fave HIBT episodes.
