what a beautiful, beautiful conversation between authors ocean vuong and tommy orange! i was really sad to have missed this live event, since everyone who went raved about it so hard. but now i get to listen to it on repeat and really soak in the wisdom. ocean's mind is amazing. brilliant, and always poetic. and also super funny! (tommy too) "you measure your worth by your questions. what kind of questions are you asking yourself. what are you trying to discover in the work? and are those questions inexhaustible. the fact that you can't answer them right away is the very fact why you should stay with them. take them on a walk. collaborate." so many more great gems. must listen!
352: Interesting Times
The podcaster begins by thinking about her 8 year-old self reading The Book of Revelations which sets up the reading perfectly. The poem captures the feeling of universal possibility, of vastness, tempered with a heavy dose of shock and the repetitiveness of it all. I keep coming back to this podcast because when it works it reminds me that poetry, followed by logging off and reflecting, act as a counteragent to all the information that sickens me.
