This is a good episode and discussion about the rise of labour organizing in digital media newsrooms. Good point about how other creative industries like theatre and film have strong labour unions, so why not digital media. Also good observation about how the labour unions are now in white collar / information work, because all work how now become more and more precarious with the rise of tech, automation, AI, and growing inequality.

@mm More newsrooms need to be unionized, but I’m not sure it will happen because people are scared of losing their jobs and don’t want to rock the boat.

@jspinelle Hopefully the successful unionization of Gimlet, Vox, and now Buzzfeed (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-07-19/buzzfeed-reaches-deal-to-recognize-union-after-months-of-talks) will give people the more confidence that unionization is to stop what they're most afraid of -- i.e. losing their jobs! But then again, I'm just an observer.
