gmlMar 6th

@mm omg it’s so good

mmMar 6th

@gml OMG!!! I was almost laughing tears when they kept on playing the guy’s vocal version of the song again and again 🤣🤣🤣 I want part 2 of this episode where we get reactions from all those OG music critics and producers, and the guy’s wife.

mmMar 6th

@gml Also added the episode to this playlist I’m slowly curator on origins of ear worms. Each episode coincidentally are easily one of the “best of” episodes for each podcast. “Origins of Musical Ear Worms 🎵👂🐛 " https://podyssey.fm/list/podcast-episodes/id1265

alicekoMar 6th

@mm @gml Can you add Strong Songs and Punch Up The Jam to that list 😬

mmMar 10th

@gml @aliceko I just tried to listen to them at the same time and it was wild 👀

gmlMar 10th

@mm @aliceko That’s hardcore. I’m copying.

mmMar 10th

@gml Not as hardcore as listening to it non-stop! 😝😝😝

rmmiller364Mar 11th

@aliceko @gml oh man, that is one bad song

mmMar 12th

@rmmiller364 The original one or the one from memory? Or both :p

A guy has an ear worm stuck in his head so Alex helps him out. Turns out to be a rabbit hole of a journey in music history. Hilarious episode. Magnificent execution. An episode that showcases the magic of Gimlet and Spotify together. ✨

alicekoMar 6th

@mm Soooo good

nrichwineMar 12th

How did Tyler remember all that?! Wow!!!

mmMar 12th

@nrichwine I’m actually still blown away. Is there an equivalent term for “photographic memory” but for music?!?

ian recommended:Mar 6th

Such an excellent episode! Amazing how well Tyler remembered the song.

mmMar 6th

@ian I was just thinking this morning about Tyler’s “photographic” memory for the song despite his off tune singing. I’m still amazed.

Pretty sure THIS is the episode that can turn podcast virgins into podcast enthusiasts. The suspense, the excitement, the miracle... I listened to this at the gym and couldn't wipe the goofy smile off my face while listening. I want to write something about the ending SO BAD, but I don't want to rui...Show More

@aliceko totally! I couldn’t stop giggling and laughing while listening to this episode. Once again PJ and Alex totally kill it. I’ve been telling all my friends to listen to it.

rmmiller364 recommended:Mar 7th

So good! They leave no stone unturned in their quest to figure out this mystery. I like that we got to learn a bit about the music industry in the 1990s in the process

Fantastic episode!

write2tg recommended:Mar 8th

An entertaining episode that reveals some interesting ideas about earworms but also about human memory. It reminded me of a BBC article I had read some time back. I tried to locate it for the listeners and here it is: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20120411-why-do-songs-stick-in-our-heads From ...Show More

rmmiller364Mar 8th

@write2tg thank you for this article! I feel like I am especially susceptible to ear worms (my husband says he rarely gets them). In fact, recently all the “songs to sing while washing your hands” memes have been tough because 97% of those songs are ones that will burrow into my head and drive me cr...Show More

@rmmiller364 I totally get that! I am not too bad with ear worms but yes once in a while... I let the parasites live off me ;-)

I added Reply All back to my queue after hearing all the buzz about this episode. I love how seriously they took the song and it was great to hear from all the critics, producers, etc. I totally listened to some Barenaked Ladies after finishing this!

basicallydan recommended:Mar 8th

Listen to this. I won't say anything else, please just listen to this.

domesticfoul recommended:Mar 9th

Having lived through the late ‘90s, I found this incredibly enjoyable.

mmMar 9th

@domesticfoul Do you remember any similar instances of songs that disappeared?!?

domesticfoulMar 9th

@mm I can’t! I was totally expecting to recognize the song when they first played it, but definitely not...I loved when they got Steven Page on the phone to explain what was going on in the music industry at that time. Explains a lot about what was playing on the radio in 97-99.

mmMar 9th

@domesticfoul The angst the seasoned music critic woman felt was probably the angst we all felt listening to this! Yes, Steven Page nailed it on the head. I wished they did a post-discovery interview with him with champagne and confetti for solving the mystery! And a reaction from those guys from Ro...Show More

This was just awesome. From the "man in California" being able to remember a complete song from 20 years ago to the band who was able to *almost* recreate it, and then finding out the guy who wrote it was from my hometown! 11/10 will listen again.
