This episode goes in my top 3 of greatest episodes ever
@gml OMG!!! I was almost laughing tears when they kept on playing the guy’s vocal version of the song again and again 🤣🤣🤣 I want part 2 of this episode where we get reactions from all those OG music critics and producers, and the guy’s wife.
@aliceko Those ones don’t count. This playlist is only for episodes for ear worms with a wacky rabbit hole mystery origin story only 😝
@mm #1 is the this american life about the guy who stole the birds from the British Museum.
@gml @aliceko Omg here's the version they recorded from memory: https://soundcloud.com/replyall/better-than-christian-lee-hutsontyler-gillett-version?in=replyall/sets/better-than
@rmmiller364 @aliceko @mm here, I made this handwashing guide for you all: https://twitter.com/badassdogooder/status/1238511046517764099?s=21
@gml O.M.G. This is next level. Sharing this masterpiece in this week's community newsletter as a PSA for sure. 🤣 Also, some of those hand motions + lyrics are just...a bit...too...weirdly...perfect...like #5 & 6...
@rmmiller364 @aliceko @mm Um, I don’t want to brag but Evan Scott Olson just followed me on twitter. For real.

A guy has an ear worm stuck in his head so Alex helps him out. Turns out to be a rabbit hole of a journey in music history. Hilarious episode. Magnificent execution. An episode that showcases the magic of Gimlet and Spotify together. ✨

Pretty sure THIS is the episode that can turn podcast virgins into podcast enthusiasts. The suspense, the excitement, the miracle... I listened to this at the gym and couldn't wipe the goofy smile off my face while listening. I want to write something about the ending SO BAD, but I don't want to rui...Show More

So good! They leave no stone unturned in their quest to figure out this mystery. I like that we got to learn a bit about the music industry in the 1990s in the process

An entertaining episode that reveals some interesting ideas about earworms but also about human memory. It reminded me of a BBC article I had read some time back. I tried to locate it for the listeners and here it is: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20120411-why-do-songs-stick-in-our-heads From ...Show More
@write2tg thank you for this article! I feel like I am especially susceptible to ear worms (my husband says he rarely gets them). In fact, recently all the “songs to sing while washing your hands” memes have been tough because 97% of those songs are ones that will burrow into my head and drive me cr...Show More

I added Reply All back to my queue after hearing all the buzz about this episode. I love how seriously they took the song and it was great to hear from all the critics, producers, etc. I totally listened to some Barenaked Ladies after finishing this!

Having lived through the late ‘90s, I found this incredibly enjoyable.
@mm I can’t! I was totally expecting to recognize the song when they first played it, but definitely not...I loved when they got Steven Page on the phone to explain what was going on in the music industry at that time. Explains a lot about what was playing on the radio in 97-99.
@domesticfoul The angst the seasoned music critic woman felt was probably the angst we all felt listening to this! Yes, Steven Page nailed it on the head. I wished they did a post-discovery interview with him with champagne and confetti for solving the mystery! And a reaction from those guys from Ro...Show More

I loved this episode. This is the Reply All guys at their best and it made me feel happy in the middle of a pandemic, which is no mean feat.

This was just awesome. From the "man in California" being able to remember a complete song from 20 years ago to the band who was able to *almost* recreate it, and then finding out the guy who wrote it was from my hometown! 11/10 will listen again.
