Learn from a Podcaster: Nick Glimsdahl of Press 1 for Nick

Hello! What’s your background and what’s your podcast about?
The Press 1 For Nick podcast is both educational and engaging, and each episode offers listeners a dynamic blend of insightful stories, best practices, and invaluable lessons. My guests – each with a unique wealth of knowledge – include leaders from a variety of backgrounds and industries.
Some of my guests include:
- Customer service & customer experience leaders
- A hostage negotiator
- Award-winning authors
- Home Depot’s Senior Director of Customer Care
- Former VP of Disney’s Magic Kingdom
- Lyft’s Head of Partner and Customer Engagement
- Deputy Chief Veteran Experience Officer from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs
On every episode, I ask my guest two questions:
1. What book or person has influenced you the most in the past year?
2. If you could leave a note to all the Customer Service and Customer Experience professionals, what would it say?
What motivated you to start a podcast?
My goal was to find ways to add value during the pandemic and learn from others along the way.
What podcast tools (equipment and software) do you use and what is your creation process?
Here is a list of equipment and software I use: https://press1fornick.com/podcasting/
I start my searching for the right potential guest, then I connect with the guest prior and/or read their book. From there we schedule a time to record and I send them a high-level agenda of our conversation, then we record.
How have you attracted listeners and grown the podcast?
I started building a community right away. The more I listened to my listeners, the more traction I gained. Since August, I also got into video, which has 10x my exposure.
If you earn revenue for your podcast, how have you grown its revenue?
I receive no revenue directly from the podcast, but I have booked speaking gigs because of the podcast.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced and obstacles you’ve overcome?
Time is the biggest obstacle. I recently hired an audio engineer to help with a lot of that work, which has created bandwidth. I also started using Calendly to help with scheduling and automated emails.
What are your goals for the future of your podcast?
Continue to add value, bring on both larger name guests who can also bring larger value.
What’s your advice for new podcasters who are starting out?
Don't be afraid to start. Begin with a good mic, enjoy the process, even when you don't have any listeners.
How can everyone learn more about you and your podcast?
