Learn from a Podcaster: Growing listenership with guests with Simon Degiorgio from “Stories Fables Ghostly Tales Podcast”

Hello! What’s your background and what’s your podcast about?
My podcast is 750+ episodes of advert free storytelling, three times a week! Supported by lovely listeners the Tale Teller brings you a mixed bag of horror, fantasy, sci-fi, custom remastered old time radio stories, folk tales and more. The Stories Fables Ghostly Tales Podcast has something for everyone. My background is multimedia, creative arts, and digital communications.
What motivated you to start a podcast?
Listening to other podcasts inspired me to do my own! And just like that I went off to pursue it.
What went into starting the podcast?
Preparation, passion, and procedure. Understanding what quality audio is, the pitfalls in recording, technical specs of my equipment, the room I'm in, and down to even the angle of my microphone. There was a lot of learning, and investigation.
What podcast tools (equipment and software) do you use and what is your creation process?
My tools include: Audacity, Pro Sonus, RX Advanced, and three different types of mics: RODE NT-USB Mini, Rode NT Standard, and the Blue Yeti.
How have you attracted listeners and grown the podcast?
I attract listeners by guest starring on other shows and hosting other podcasters on my own show. I’ve been highly successful in growing an audience that way.
If you earn revenue for your podcast, how have you grown its revenue?
I don't earn revenue specifically, but I have donations sent through to me via Patreon.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced and obstacles you’ve overcome?
The biggest challenges I’m facing are reaching out to audiences and breaking into new demographics. People are usually set in what they listen to, so reaching new people and new listeners is extremely difficult. I also cover a broad range of genres, which also can attract and detract people.
What are your goals for the future of your podcast?
My goals are to turn the show into a business eventually and to reach an even larger demographic.
What’s your advice for new podcasters who are starting out?
Never give up, stay motivated, and understand what motivates YOU. Define what success is, and understand what brings you joy from doing what you do on the podcast. It's so important.
How can everyone learn more about you and your podcast?
I have a website, and I'm on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and on news articles around the world.
