Hi everyone! I’m Nikki Boyer, a 3-time Emmy award winning TV host, and creator of Wondery’s hit podcast “Dying for Sex” about my closest friend Molly. This is the true story of Molly’s journey when she was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, leaves her unhappy marriage, and embarks on a series of sexual adventures to help her feel alive. "Dying for Sex" isn't just about sex. It's also about friendship, love, facing adversity, and deciding what to do with the time that you have left. In this interview with Podyssey’s editor Melody @mm, we go behind-the-scenes and chat about everything from how this podcast was created, how it changed my outlook on life to common questions from listeners (like when’s Molly’s book going to come out), and much much more. There are spoilers in this interview, so go listen to the podcast first starting with episode one here: https://podyssey.fm/episode/id8078747-Happy-Endings-%7C-1-Dying-For-Sex I want to hear from you too! We’re opening up this interview to listener questions and comments. Just hit reply and let me know what you’re thinking or any questions you might have for me by Wednesday, April 8th. I’ll be answering your questions then!

Hey Nikki, Thanks so much for your incredible podcast! I don’t think I’ve laughed or cried so much for a podcast. The energy between you and Molly was infectious. Molly’s story was profound, and you were the perfect guide for us for her adventure. On that note, listeners are probably wondering fir...Show More

This all started around three years ago. One afternoon, I picked up Molly to take her to lunch. At this time, she had already moved out of her husband’s house and was living in a little apartment very close to me. We were at a stoplight and she was telling me about the two dates that she had gon...Show More

I loved how you crafted the narrative of the podcast as a journey for us -- how we were able to travel with you and Molly from a “happy” to bittersweet ending, from laughter to tears and laughter again, from exploration to closure, and ultimately the journey of living and dying. It’s obvious that th...Show More

These are amazing questions by the way. Molly and I got on the phone and decided to separate and organize her sexual escapades by topic. For example, things that happened in cars, things that happened before 9 AM, or adventures that involved her being in the hospital. So that was our way of organi...Show More

Yes, I did hear many of the stories before. But I have to say, Molly’s storytelling and her ability to keep you hanging even when you’re re-listening to the same story is pretty amazing. There were so many stories that sometimes I even forgot! In the recordings, she would sometimes give me details...Show More

The story was set mostly in your hometown LA, a city that one character called “promiscuous”, “hedonist”, and “playground” where everyone has “Peter Pan syndrome”. Another called it a “zombie town” where people have “slash identities”. How do you think LA as the backdrop for this story influenced ...Show More

That’s a really interesting question. Yes, Los Angeles definitely does have a reputation. But I don’t think I ever really thought of it as a backdrop. I mean, maybe I’m just so used to living here that this has become my norm. But I think these kinds of stories could really happen anywhere. Tind...Show More

How did you get the random men of Molly’s sexual escapades to speak to you? Did it take some convincing? How did you build trust with them to get them to open up with some of their most embarrassing and intimate stories of their lives with you (and also in such excruciating detail!)?

After you heard Toyota Guy’s and George’s side of their stories with Molly, you mentioned that it changed your perception of the situation, but did it ever change your perception of your best friend in either case and how?

I did change my perception of the situation actually. Quite drastically. At first, I thought Toyota Guy was just a random douchebag that got his rocks off in Molly’s car. Well outside of Molly’s car. But it was a really good lesson for me with assumptions. There was a whole story behind that guy...Show More

Molly never got to listen to the recordings of these men. And although my perspective was a little judgy, I don’t think Molly ever really judged either of them. She had a wonderful way of just sort of accepting people for exactly where they were.
