Really beautiful and insightful conversation about trauma & the body - the nature of memories: become integrated into stories - traumatic memories are not integrated but relived: nature of trauma is that you can not recollect it as a story, the brain does not allow the story to be created. "Trauma is not about being verbal or reasonable or articulate." Van der Kolk's body of work proves that the key to so much of human trauma lies not in talking it out but embodying ourselves through sensory and somatic experiences. @adam_p This episode was MIND BLOWING. Everything that Van der Kolk discusses makes sense. I have now looked into EMDR as a result of this episode and will also try to scan his book, or find another episode with Kolk. Thank you for sharing, truly.

@aliceko You are welcome. Am I'm so glad for you to have more tools to put your trauma behind you. @aliceko Isn't it surprising how this idea that trauma is stored in the body, and thus must be treated in the body, makes so much sense once you are exposed to it? I feel like this is the sea change for therapeutic treatments that needs to be the new normal.

I loved the information he provided on heart rate variability and also on yoga being a practice of embodiment when processing trauma. Talk-therapy is definitely not the only therapy out there and I’m glad he highlighted that!
