The De Beers brothers were not the founders of De Beers. Their farmland were taken away from them by Cecil Rhodes (the 'Rhodes' of 'Rhodes Scholar') after Rhodes found diamonds in their land. Sounds like a generally awful human undeserving of today's prestige attached to his name.
