I had never heard of the Clotilda before, which is a shame. Decades after importing enslaved people was banned in the US (and just four years before the start of the Civil War), a group of 110 enslaved Africans were smuggled into Alabama from West Africa. This is the story of their descendants.

A horrifying story with a not-quite satisfying ending, but the people descended from the last slave ship are amazing people. They deserve all the retribution against this family.
