Will Trump be banned from Facebook *forever*? It’s up to Facebook’s new supreme court.

Radiolab's old episode about Facebook moderation is one of my favourite podcast episodes ever. Totally blew my mind their old policy to "protect white men but not black children". This was a good follow up. Things will get interesting as we move tech into the future!

The fight to free Britney Spears explained.

rmmiller364 recommended:Feb 15th

Britney was the pop star of my teenage/college years and is still a karaoke favorite of mine. Looking back at how she and other female stars were treated at this time is really kind of horrifying. I think there is A LOT more pushback against sexist mainstream media coverage now and I’m glad there se...Show More

Returned to this episode after watching Netflix’s new documentary about Elisa Lam and the Cecil Hotel. Props to this episode and the show for really humanizing her story and not sensationalizing the tragedy.

Before China banned the audio chat app Clubhouse, it was a place for unfiltered conversations between Chinese, Hong Kongers, Taiwanese, and Uighurs.

mm recommended:Feb 16th

For 2 weeks before China banned the app, Clubhouse was the meeting place for free expression where Mainland Chinese, Taiwanese and Uyghurs talked to each other for hours. I don't know if something like this has ever happened before, but it's eye-opening to hear.

📰 Podcast News: is this the end of Reply All?

In an ironic twist, Reply All’s new series on racism at the food magazine Bon Appétit has revealed systemic issues at Reply All’s parent network Gimlet that have led to the permanent stepping away of host PJ Vogt, as well as the immediate departure of senior reporter Sruthi Pinnamaneni. PJ and Sruthi were accused of creating a toxic environment and undermining unionizing efforts at Gimlet in a Twitter thread from Eric Eddings, former co-host of The Nod, another Gimlet podcast.

Eric’s thread has sparked more podcasters of color to come forward about their experiences at Gimlet and other podcasts and networks, including Radiolab. It remains to be seen whether this reckoning within the podcasting industry will spark tangible change, but it is inspiring to see so many creators speaking up about their experiences.
