The first episode in this two-part series covers the haunting disappearance of Brandon Lawson, who was last seen on August 8, 2013 when he left his house after an argument with his girlfriend in the middle of the night. Brandon was 26 at the time and had four children. On his way to his father’s house, a two hour drive away, Brandon ran out of gas on the highway, but when Brandon’s brother Kyle arrived to help him, Brandon was nowhere to be found. What makes this one of the best True Crime Garage episodes is the way that Nic and the Captain take the time to break down Brandon’s 911 call sentence by sentence — slowing it down and speeding it up to try to see what exactly Brandon was saying. This is a case with a lot of speculation and so many unanswered questions, and it may never be solved, but this mystery is sure to stay with you for a long time.

In December 1991, four teenage girls were killed in a yogurt shop in Austin, Texas. Over 25 years later, the case is still unsolved. Strangely, over 50 people have confessed to the crime, including serial killer Kenneth Allen McDuff at the time of his execution. In this rigorous best episode, Nic and the Captain thoroughly go through the possible perpetrators, as well as the statements from four teenage boys who were the main suspects in this horrific case. Two of the boys confessed and were convicted of the crime — and one sentenced to death — based solely on their confessions with no hard evidence. Eventually, their convictions were overturned.
