The 8 Best My Favorite Murder Episodes of All Time
Started over five years ago by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, My Favorite Murder has become a constant in the world of true crime. Each episode starts with a long introduction (although many “skippers” choose to fast forward straight to the murdery action) where Karen and Georgia chat about life, make each other (and the listener) laugh, and share updates about their successful podcast network Exactly Right. In most episodes, the two hosts each tell a true crime story, ranging from Karen’s favorite survivor tales to well-known serial killers to crimes from history. Through it all, the two offer light-hearted and often hilarious commentary, making this show the epitome of true crime comedy podcasts.
With hundreds of full-length episodes, minisodes, and live shows to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start with My Favorite Murder episodes. Of course, die-hard “Murderinos” will advise you to start at episode one for the full experience — and if you choose to do so you’re sure to be in on all the inside jokes (from “Look. Listen.” to “You’re in a cult, call your dad”). But if you’re searching for the best episodes of My Favorite Murder, look no further than this handy list, compiled using recommendations from the Podyssey community of podcast lovers. 1) 129 - Coincidence Island
In this fan-favorite episode, Karen talks about the little-known cold case of the Honolulu Strangler while Georgia covers the Galapagos Affair, a wild tale about a collection of strange people living together on a deserted island. What unfolds is a laugh-out-loud episode full of weird twists and peak Karen and Georgia banter. You can’t go wrong with this one!
2) 185 - 400 Peeled Potatoes
If you haven’t heard the story of Dr. Malachi Love-Robinson — the teenage boy who got away with pretending to be a doctor — you need to drop everything and listen to this episode right now. (Yes Malachi Love-Robinson is his real name, and somehow the least surprising thing about this story).
3) 18 - Investigateighteen Discovery
If you keep listening to My Favorite Murder, you’ll quickly realize that Karen Kilgariff loves her survivor stories. As a true crime fan, these amazing examples of perseverance are a welcome reprieve from the bodies that quickly pile up in many cases. This early episode is unforgettable for the story of Mary Vincent who survived against all odds — even when both of her arms were cut off by her attacker.
4) 105 - Proclensity
This episode is legendary among Murderinos for Karen’s hilarious impression of Typhoid Mary. If you want to learn more about this historic case (and hear her impression), as well as the murder of well-known fashion writer Christa Worthington, make sure to check this episode out.
5) 122 - Surprise! It’s Paul Holes
After an arrest is made in the Golden State Killer case, the My Favorite Murder hosts are speaking with crime journalist Billy Jensen about the new development when Paul Holes — the retired investigator known for his contributions to the case — calls in. This episode provides amazing insight into the iconic case, as well as really showing off the work My Favorite Murder has done to help popularize true crime.
6) 214 - Live at the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco (2018)
In non-COVID times, a huge part of the Murderino experience is the live shows. If you’re looking for a fun live show to start with, try this one from 2018!

7) 183 - Here We Back Are
This episode will go down in MFM history for its introduction of the fascinating Mothman legend — Georgia Hardstark even dressed up as Mothman for Halloween. That lighter story works as a counterbalance to the murder of 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling, a case which went unsolved for nearly 27 years. With its mix of chilling true crime and funny tangents, this is one of the best My Favorite Murder podcast episodes.
8) MFM Minisode 131 - The Worst
Another big part of My Favorite Murder is the minisodes, where Karen and Georgia read hometown murders sent in from listeners. These short episodes are perfect for getting a hit of true crime into your day. If you’re looking for a minisode to start with, try this one, which is all about viewers’ brushes with the most infamous serial killers.
